FAQ
Answers to Your Questions About Residential Construction and Renovation
1. What Is the Difference Between a Renovation and an Addition?
A renovation transforms or modernizes existing spaces—including the kitchen, bathroom, and basement—without changing the home’s footprint. An addition, on the other hand, increases the living area through a horizontal extension or the addition of a new floor, a garage, or a separate office.
Both can be carried out simultaneously to maximize your investment and minimize disruption.
2. Do I Need a Permit to Renovate or Add an Extension to My Home in Montréal?
It depends on the nature and scope of the work. In Montréal, a permit is generally required for any addition, structural modification, or major update to electrical and plumbing systems.
Anjinnov Habitation handles the process of obtaining municipal permits in accordance with your borough’s requirements, including compliance with zoning and site planning regulations.
3. Is It Better to Renovate or Move?
For most homeowners, renovating or expanding is the most cost-effective and least disruptive solution. You get to stay in your neighbourhood, keep your social circle, and maintain your property history, all while adapting your space to your current needs. A well-planned project also increases your property’s market value in the long term.
4. How Can I Ensure That an Addition Blends Well With My Home’s Existing Architecture?
Architectural integration relies on a rigorous analysis of the proportions, materials, and details of the existing structure before even beginning the plans.
At Anjinnov Habitation, every addition is designed to be a natural extension of the home—from the selection of cohesive cladding materials to the continuity of architectural lines and the coordination of interior and exterior finishes.
5. Can Anjinnov Habitation Manage the Entire Project, or Do I Have To Coordinate the Various Tradespeople Myself?
Anjinnov Habitation provides complete management of your project from start to finish: obtaining permits, selecting materials, coordinating all trades (electricians, plumbers, carpenters, joiners), and monitoring deadlines.
You’ll have a single point of contact for the entire project, which simplifies communication and ensures the consistency of the final result.
6. What Is the Difference Between a Standard Renovation and a High-End Renovation?
A high-end renovation goes beyond functional modernization. It involves exceptional materials such as Italian marble, fine woods, and custom finishes, in addition to collaboration with specialized craftsmen and designers.
Anjinnov Habitation offers both levels of service, with the same professional rigour, to meet the expectations of every client and every budget. We undertake projects of all sizes to meet every need.
Process and deadlines
How long does a turnkey construction project take?
A standard single-family home takes 8 to 12 months to build, including permits (2-3 months), construction (6-8 months), and finishing (1-2 months). Custom projects with complex finishes require 12 to 18 months.
Can I live in my residence during a renovation?
Kitchen or bathroom renovations allow you to stay in your home. For major renovations affecting the structure, electrical system, or main plumbing, a temporary move of 2 to 6 weeks may be required.
When should the work be started for a spring delivery?
Start your project the previous autumn for a spring delivery. This allows for 2-3 months of winter planning and construction during the colder months.
Budgets and costs
What is your minimum project budget?
Our projects start at $400,000 for turnkey constructions. The final budget depends on the architectural complexity, the level of finishes chosen, and the integrated systems (home automation, radiant heating, security systems).
Do your estimates include all costs?
Our estimates include materials, labor, permits, and a contingency fund. Only changes to the materials selected after signing will generate additional costs.
Regulations and guarantees
Do you handle obtaining permits?
We handle all required municipal permits, engineering assessments, and certificates of compliance. These fees are included in our estimate, and approval times are built into the timeline.
What does your warranty cover?
Our warranty covers defects in materials, workmanship, and malfunctions of installed systems. Normal wear and tear and unauthorized modifications after delivery are excluded.
